Going For 10 Generations In The Sims 4: Part 1

The year is 1880. Or at least it's somewhere around there. The Sims 4 is a bit limited in its "period" furniture and clothing choices, but I'll do my best to recreate the era... and the one after that... and so on. I'm going to try for 10 generations.

We begin with our first matriarch, Rachel Miranda. Rachel comes from a wealthy family, and she has a lovely house. Now all she needs (well, at least for this challenge) is a partner to share it with.

I have created 2 potential suitors for Rachel -- Charley (left) and Johnny (center).

Here's how to tell them apart: Johnny wears a hat....

And Charley has an epic mustache....

They're both nice, but...

Rachel seems to have a stronger attachment to Johnny...

And so...

Sorry, Charley!

Soon, Rachel is proposing to Johnny!

"I thought I was supposed to do that," Johnny says, and then shrugs. Oh well. An engagement is an engagement no matter who pops the question.

"And we're taking my last name," says Rachel. As I forgot to give Johnny a last name, he's fine taking Rachel's.

Rachel and Johnny Miranda spend their honeymoon abroad. Afterwards, they return home, where Rachel gives birth to their first child, Edward. No midwives for her, either! She just expels the baby while standing in front of the bassinet. What a gal!

It's a happy day in the Miranda household when baby Edward arrives!

Edward soon grows into an enchanting and inquisitive toddler...

As Edward plays happily with his blocks, his parents work on their own projects...

Soon, it's another boy... Thomas!

Seemingly overnight, sweet little Edward becomes Edward The Terrible...

A few years down the road, Thomas is walking...

And Edward is off to school...

Meanwhile, Rachel is about to give birth to her third child...

It's another boy -- Arthur!

A few years after that, the couple gives birth to their fourth and final child... a daughter, Elizabeth.

A family portrait is attempted...

The years pass and the kids get older...

And soon Edward becomes a young adult. Which means it's time for him to lead the way into Generation 3!

There are four eligible ladies in the neighborhood: Elena Wilcox (below, left), her sister Mary Wilcox (violet dress); Anna Reynolds (blue jumper) and Katherine Reynolds (brown jumper.)

Edward and Thomas chat with the ladies....

Thomas (right) is suave. Edward (green vest), not so much...

Edward pays a visit to the ladies...

A few days later, they return the favor.

Elena seems more interested in hanging out with Edward's dad and brother than Edward himself...

And Anna seems to have taken a liking to Edward's two youngest siblings...

Hmmm.... could there be something between Edward and Mary, perhaps?

Katherine really doesn't give a crap.

Wait, what's this? A seating rearrangement...?

Sparks begin to ignite between Edward and Anna!

It soon becomes clear to Edward that Anna is "the one."

Mary will eventually get over it.

As the new century dawns, Edward and Anna get engaged, and then wed!

Johnny and Rachel, being full-on elderly by Edwardian standards, move out and retire to Florida...

Edward's three younger siblings remain at home... for now.

Now that he's the man of the house, Edward decides he'd better grow a mustache...

Soon Anna is expecting their first child.

Meanwhile, the ice box spontaneously catches fire...

Predictably, everyone freaks out and no one does nothing to put out the fire. Typical Sims.

Finally, young Elizabeth -- using some newfangled futuristic device she somehow acquired -- summons the fire department.

"Why must I be the only rational human in this house?" Elizabeth wonders.

Soon, the excitement settles down, and Anna begins to look forward to the arrival of her first child...

Will it be a boy? Will it be a girl? Whoever it will be, that child will carry on the next generation....

To be continued...
